In the summer of 2019 I ran three marathons in three consecutive months. I gave myself six weeks to train for the first marathon. Before that, I never ran more than five miles.

Let it be known––I hate running. Hated running each marathon. Hated the hundreds of miles of training I put in.

But I had to do it. I ran a three hour marathon on a hot Oregon morning in July. That’s a 7 minute mile x 26.2 miles. That’s fast. I even shit myself and had to eject in a forest. Then I kept running. That’s who I am. That’s how I do. That’s what I bring.

Grit. Some nasty shit. And a lot of heart.

Summer 2019 was undeniably the most stressful time of my adult life. I’d invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into my business and it wasn’t working the way I ‘needed’ it to work.

I was forcing it. I’d lost all the joy. Again. Just like 2018. But this time it was all my fault.

So what did I do? I ran. Not away. I ran into the fear. I took it out on the road, the gravel, my legs. I busted my knees and I broke the fear.

When shit hits the fan and everyone you know starts to look around to see who is going to step up, make sure they are all looking in your direction.

Better yet: make sure YOU are looking at you. Know who the fuck you are. What you’re capable of.

My whole career has been about helping powerful humans remember just how powerful they are.

If you’re a business owner, you already know how challenging it can be to show up as Leader. To be in full integrity. You’re so used to pouring into others––your team, your clients, your family––you forget to pour into yourself.

That’s bullshit. Frankly. You’re avoiding something.

What are you avoiding?

Maybe now, when the world is looking for leaders, you want to hide.

You might be showing up for your clients, sure, but you’re hiding. Maybe you’re quietly stuffing your face with icecream, bottles of wine, ounces of weed. Whatever poison. Whatever comfort. Whatever feels good. Because you don’t want to show up.

You’re confusing “compassion” with laziness.

You’re scared.

You’re allowed to be scared. But don’t be afraid.

Sometimes you have to blow yourself up to remind yourself who the hell you are.
You’ve got to face the shit to remember who the master is.

You are the master.

Maybe that means running a marathon. Maybe that means losing 20 pounds. Maybe that means writing a novel instead of jerking off your creativity to yet another lost inspirational quote that lessens your opinion of yourself.

Whatever it means, it means it’s time. Because 2020 has been a sharp and shiny mirror that makes everything look ugly as hell if you’re not in integrity. And these new realities, the new truths exposed are here to stay.

So what’s it going to be? Who are you going to see when you look at yourself? Are you even going to look?

I hardly ever talk about my private coaching work publicly. I’ve built a highly profitable executive coaching business by word of mouth. And I like to keep it that way. Because my clients do the work and pay me like they mean it. It works for everyone. They get the glory and I don’t have to play an internet marketing game I hate.

But right now I feel a duty to show up in my small corner of the internet. Because I’m seeing a lot of disempowered talk from people I respect. A lot of stupid mistakes are being made right now, and it’s typically from smart people who are treating themselves like garbage.

So if you’d like some help mastering yourself, getting in the best shape of your life, taking on some motherfucker of a challenge, and/or dominating some of that nasty under-the-bed-boogie-man shit that keeps you up at night––

Good.

That’s what I’m here to help you with. I work with leaders who want to be masters.
If you think that’s you, then let’s talk.

I’m starting to resent the coaching industry. This is a problem, because I’m best known for being a coach.

As a kid, I listened to punk rock and have always hated labeling myself as anything…but that’s what I am: I’m a professional coach.

I’m also a serial entrepreneur, writer, lover, fitness addict, and have been told I take a handsome photo. (Love you, Mom.)

We’re all many things, but one thing I am is a professional.

In the coaching world, it’s becoming more and more important these days to distinguish yourself as a professional.

In other words—someone who has not only accomplished what your clients want for themselves, but even more importantly someone who has been trained to create transformation in his clients’ lives.

(This, as opposed to someone who looks good with his or her shirt off, slaps the word “coach” on his Instagram bio and stands behind little more than Tony Robbins-ripped motivational quotes.)

…Charismatic? Certainly.

…Coach? Not so much.

Being a model of excellence for your clients is good for marketing. But that doesn’t make you an effective coach. Especially not when your clientele are high performing executives and entrepreneurs who are results-driven and also INCREDIBLY stubborn. (Don’t scowl, you know you are.)

It’s the same reason why not all athletes make exceptional coaches. It’s not just about knowing how to play the game and being all ra-ra motivational, it’s about enrollment.

“Enrollment” means sharing in such a way as to have your listener take action.

To be a good coach, your clients will think that you’re the most interesting person in the room.

To be an exceptional coach, your clients will think that they’re the most interesting person in the room.

Your job as a professional coach is to help your clients be an expert in leading their own lives, not following your orders.

It’s not enough to tell your clients what to do, it’s creating the shift so that they’re telling you what they’re going to create, by when, and why you can rely on them to make it happen.

Extraordinary coaching is having the skill and compassion to enroll your clients in being the DEMAND to cause their own breakthrough.

That way, the results they create are permanent. Not just “results” on the outside, but transformation inside.

How do I know this? Because this is my brilliance. It’s who I am, what I do. And it didn’t come cheap.

In the past few years, I have invested well over $300,000 in my coaching and leadership development, from LA to San Diego, to New York to London, gaining accreditation from the ICF along the way. But who cares about titles, right? I threw that in just because.

Over my career, I’ve spent well over 10,000 hours coaching my clients, mostly entrepreneurs, executives and creatives—and all of them high performers who want more from life.

My mentors, peers and clients are the world’s very best and most successful coaches and online entrepreneurs.

Writing all of this, I’m proud of who I am. When I read these thoughts on the screen, I’m proud to call myself a coach—even if I don’t always feel that way when I see how the profession is represented on the webs.

I put all of my accomplishments at the end of this message because, in truth, none of it matters.

You know when someone is real by measure of the impact he has on your life.

You know by the sense of possibility you feel within yourself.

If you’re making multiple 6 figures, here are 6 reasons why you feel so shitty https://www.danielthomashind.com/if-youre-making-multiple-6-figures-here-are-6-reasons-why-you-feel-so-shitty/ Thu, 25 Oct 2018 07:09:02 +0000 https://www.danielthomashind.com/?p=2136 Most businesses are chaotic: there are no systems, rules, schedules or protocols.

Business owners usually lead by trying to answer: “What’s urgent right now?” or “How can I create money IMMEDIATELY?”

Often, the same problems you’re experiencing within yourself, you’re also experiencing with your business. This is not a coincidence. Because this is a leadership problem. The two are one and the same.

If you’re like most entrepreneurs earning between six and seven figures, you’re probably experiencing one or more of six common pains:

#1. Lack of Control

You don’t have enough control of your time, your energy, or your choices. Instead of controlling the business, the business is controlling you.

You make choices in life purely to support the business, often sacrificing basic human needs and personal relationships to get stuff done.

You frequently self-sabotage—like eat junk food, chase sugar, binge on Netflix, binge on social media, drink, etc. etc.—because it feels good in the moment, relieves your stress, and is the only way you know how to “let loose” or “take the pressure off.”

#2. Lack of Consistency

The lack of structure in your life makes for a 24/7 emotional rollercoaster. Even though you tell yourself you do, your behaviors prove that you have no set bedtime, no morning routine, and no daily/weekly habits that keep you anchored to your intentions.

You frequently sleep past your alarm after spending another night glued to the computer, eating crap, drinking caffeine and scrolling through Facebook.

You are often rushed, let down, and anxious because the day always seems to get away from you while your To-Do list is growing. You further sacrifice personal routines to put fires out.

#3. Nothing is Working

You’ve tried various strategies and quick-fix solutions—like going on diets, hiring personal trainers, and buying self-help books. None have worked for long and now you’re disillusioned by new initiatives. You’re spinning your wheels about what to do and probably feeling a bit hopeless.

#4.  Profit

Simply put, there’s not enough:

…There’s never enough space to think.

…There’s never enough money.

…There’s never enough time to do the things you really care about.

Even when you’re not working, you can’t shut it down. It’s often a mental struggle to even “allow yourself” to go out on a Saturday night. You are living in a world of scarcity, even though you desire abundance.

#5. People

You’re frustrated with your team members, partners, service providers, clients

and customers. They don’t seem to listen or follow through with their actions, and they’re always nagging you for something. You’re upset with your friends and family. They don’t understand the pressures of being an entrepreneur, the unbelievable weight of responsibility.

People are unreliable and you’re better off alone, you believe.

#6.   Growth

The energy has died. That exhilarating, intoxicating feeling of personal growth you felt when you started your entrepreneurial journey has stopped. No matter what you do, you can’t seem to get it back. You feel overwhelmed and unsure what it means.

So what’s holding you back? And what are you going to do about it?

If you’re a leader and feeling overwhelmed, unhealthy, and out of sync with yourself—and you’re NOT committed to working on yourself—then how can you expect things to change in your business, when you are the root cause of its problems?

That’s not a judgment, by the way—there’s nothing wrong or broken or stupid or failed about YOU.

You simply need a new system that would have you succeeding in mastering yourself—from which springs your business.

Believe me—There is nothing about yourself that you cannot learn to control and master.

I’ll ask again: So what’s holding you back? And what are you going to do about it?

The Evolved Entrepreneur: Why What Got You Here Won’t Get You There https://www.danielthomashind.com/why-what-got-you-here-wont-get-you-there/ Thu, 25 Oct 2018 07:05:49 +0000 https://www.danielthomashind.com/?p=2131 It’s funny, many of the 7+ figure entrepreneurs I work with like to argue that since they’ve reached $1M in revenue, they’ve graduated from Survival. They point to their business and say: “Look, you handsome idiot, I have a sustainable, scalable, predictable business. I have a few employees. We’ve got a tight operation here. I’m a leader, not a hustler. I’m free to do whatever I want.”

Of course they say this after they’ve just admitted they’re sleeping four hours per night, are 30+ pounds overweight, and keep interrupting the conversation, saying “Hold on one second, I’m sorry, I just have to check this”—referring to a text or email.

→ Let me be clear: Some entrepreneurs do graduate from hustler to leader organically, by themselves, or they’re wise enough to hire professional coaches & mentors to help them earlier on in their journey. If you’re like my client in the example above, you are not one of them.

Building a sustainable, scalable, predictable business is a necessary condition for creating Freedom and Impact in your business, and is a useful tool for creating Freedom and Impact in your life.

But if you’ve been reading these past few posts and feel captivated because I’m describing the internal state of what it’s like to be you and how it’s manifested in the unhealthy choices you make on a daily basis, then it doesn’t matter if you’re a billionaire, because at the end of the day you are still a hustler living from Survival and haven’t evolved into your Power.

→ This is why very rich people can get caught in the trappings of wealth and busyness; they’re constantly looking to the outside to validate how they should feel inside and are always too “busy” to receive the impact of their work. Successful people aren’t busy. Because busy = imprisoned.

Our conversation began with a deep-dive into Levels 1 and 2 of the modern entrepreneur’s evolution.

Level 3: Freedom & Creation

In review:

  • Level 1: Survival
    • Major Milestone: $100k
  • Level 2: Identity
    • Major Milestone: $250k

Leaders are Creators

We live in one of two states of mind: Survival or Creation.

You’re either in emergency Survival mode or Creation mode (growth and repair). You cannot be in both at the same time.

In Survival, there’s no opportunity to go inward, ever, when there’s a perpetual threat around the corner. There’s no opportunity to grow.

Our reality becomes about our body, the environment, and time:

  • we obsess about our bodies and what’s wrong;
  • we obsess about our environment, our business and the problems in our life;
  • and we obsess about time and how there’s never enough of it.

We create problems in our lives so that we can stress ourselves out and fix them.

Freedom comes from within.

Leaders are purposeful. True leaders know their zone of genius and realize that their greatest potential for impact isn’t from being busy. It’s learning to quiet the mind, inhabit stillness, and go within in order to do the lateral thinking required to truly evolve and put a dent in the fucking universe.

When you trust yourself, you are free. When you are free, you are inspired. When you’re inspired, you create. When you create, you lead.

Here’s how to achieve Freedom and unlock your personal Power:

Right now, you know your life would be exponentially better if you started working on any one area of your health and lifestyle.

You are predictably unreliable to follow through with your greater commitments, however, because you’re caught in Survival mode, which has you hustling inside your business instead of evolving into a true leader and influencer.

Not only do you need a complete system overhaul to help you get out of your own way and start reversing some of your unhealthiest habits, but you need an exact method that you can trust and follow without having to disrupt everything all at once in order to be successful. That sort of absolutist approach does not work when it comes to habit change and lifestyle redesign, especially when you have so much at stake.

You need a progressive process to successfully implement the new strategies you’ll be learning through practice, feedback, mistakes, and iteration—without having to “get it right” all at once. In time, you’ll fully adopt these new modes of thinking, acting, and being.

Most importantly, you need to learn how to fully trust yourself again.

At the root of all of your pains and problems is a Self-Trust Deficiency. As hard as it is to admit, you don’t trust yourself to follow through on commitments. When it comes to making lifestyle changes, you feel out of alignment with your intentions, your thoughts, and your actions.

Trust = Freedom = Creation = Leadership

Success is a skill that you practice and develop over time. When you learn how to trust yourself, you’ll have the freedom to create a life and business on your terms, acting with purpose and power in everything you do, thereby being the leader you know you are.

That’s where I come in. Since you don’t fully trust yourself in this area of your life—yet—you need someone you can trust. At the beginning of the book, I offered an analogy: if your life was a business, you’d need a COO to step in and free you up to be an effective CEO.

In the rest of this book, I will I teach you my entire approach to self-mastery, health optimization and lifestyle design—the first and only of its kind that’s been created for successful entrepreneurs at the six to seven figure range.

My hope is that by having built such an extensive case for you up until this point, I’ve earned your trust. From there, you’ll be more open to implement some of my suggestions.

→ There’s nothing like the real thing, of course. When I work with my clients, I provide the deep coaching and radical accountability you desperately need to help you break free from the current paradigm within which you’re living.

Transformational coaching is the single greatest tool to get you from where you are to where you want to be. It’s the secret weapon you haven’t yet experienced. To see what’s possible, click here.

When you put Evolved Entrepreneur’s Operating System(EE/OS) to work, you will accomplish unprecedented levels of health, success, and growth in your life—just as my clients have been doing for years.

The Evolution of the Entrepreneur https://www.danielthomashind.com/the-evolution-of-the-entrepreneur/ Thu, 25 Oct 2018 07:01:04 +0000 https://www.danielthomashind.com/?p=2126 If you’re like most entrepreneurs, especially if you do most of your business online, your entrepreneurial evolution probably looks something like this:

Level 1: Survival

At the infancy of your entrepreneurial evolution you focus only on surviving.

Because you are broke, probably a bit emotionally unstable, and overly optimistic, you throw yourself into the matrix and soon realize that the only way to survive is to work harder than you ever thought possible, and to demand more from yourself than you knew was inside of you.

You tap into your innate, primal Survival Mechanism. It’s powerful.

Milestone 1: $100k

Living from Survival consists of 16+ hour work days (you probably have a second job, in order to make ends meet), a heavy dose of fucking up, quantum leaps in your learning and skill development, and a kill-at-all-costs hustle.

This sort of hustle is what Gary V. has popularized and which we, as a culture, have mistakenly glorified.

If you keep it up at this pace, you eventually reach the first milestone in your entrepreneurial evolution: $100k.

By this point, you have worked so hard for so long that you’ve quite literally reprogrammed yourself: this intense way of being is a dramatic shift from how you once were. (Remember the dreamy days of obsessing over business ideas and never acting on any of them?) This is personal growth on steroids.

Congratulations, you’re now a Warrior.

Do you know what this nets you? The validation, discipline and resilience to push even harder on your way to the second milestone: $250k.

Milestone 2: $250k

You’re a bit smarter now, but you’re working just as hard. The choices you’re making are having a bigger impact. For one, you’re making more money. Now you have a validated business model, or at least the start of one, and you’re honing in on the best ways to serve your ideal customer in a leveraged way through more sophisticated systems of delivery.

You’re now an industry expert.

Level 2: Identity

When you get to this phase (and mind you, this can take many, many years), you begin to identify as an entrepreneur from an honest and authentic place. No more wishing, this is who you are now. You are providing for yourself, building a reputation in your industry, and investing in your business’s future.

You’re probably feeling like a bit of a rock star, too—you’re making $20,000+ per month after all!

That said, because you’ve been doing everything yourself since Day 1, your Survival Mechanism that you originally developed just to get by has now become your Winning Strategy.

→ Pay attention, because here I’m about to blow your mind.

A Winning Strategy is an unconscious formula for achieving success. You did not design this Winning Strategy, it designed you. As a human being and as a leader, it is the source of your success and at the same time the source of your limitations. It defines your reality, your way of being, and your way of thinking. This, in turn, focuses your attention and shapes your actions, thereby determining what’s possible and not possible for you as a leader.

Survival Mechanism →  Winning Strategy

Through many years of hustle and conditioning,

your Survival Mechanism developed into your Winning Strategy.

This might sound cool, but I assure you it is not cool.

Living from Survival is not exactly living from your highest potential. In fact, it’s the lowest level of human consciousness. You don’t make brilliant decisions from Survival; it’s not meant for strategic deep dives and doesn’t cater to creative breakthroughs. You make decisions purely to survive, that’s it.

So, that insane drive of yours? That once-indestructible work ethic that propelled you from being a nobody to being an entrepreneur? Your Survival Mechanism is now your Winning Strategy, and is the primary source of your success.

And it’s also the sole source of your limitations. Which is why you aren’t personally growing, even if money is coming in the door.

Which means you are your business’s single greatest limitation.

But it’s worse than that. Your Winning Strategy is like a drug. And the more you use it, the less effective it is. So you use more, until you realize you’re addicted and can’t function.

Although you might try to convince yourself otherwise, there is an upper limit to how much you can work, how much stress you can live with, how long you can endure sacrificing your health and basic human needs before you break.

Believe me, I’ve personally tested this theory myself and seen countless others try; it never turns out well.

Milestone 3: $1M

If you’re like the majority of entrepreneurs I work with, your Winning Strategy is the very thing that is keeping you from reaching 7-figures and creating the life you desire. Let me repeat that: What got you here will not get you to the next level of success.

It’s not a marketing thing. More exposure won’t get you the dream. Upticked revenues won’t solve your problems. (They’ll only make things worse: more exhausted, more unhealthy, less of you.)

It’s a YOU thing. You have not yet developed the internal power to transcend the limitations of a hustler in Survival and evolve into an effective leader who has control over your internal environment and external pressures.

That’s why I designed the Evolved Entrepreneur’s Operating System: to help you evolve.
